💔 Because AI never cried over fried chicken at midnight.
Lately, the internet has been hit with a magical wave — suddenly, everyone’s turning into Studio Ghibli characters with a single click. This AI Ghibli trend is like the digital version of a transformation spell. Just upload a photo, and boom — you’re instantly whisked away into a dreamy Hayao Miyazaki film, complete with soft, glowy color palettes and that nostalgic childhood magic. It’s like a warm filter for the soul, and people can’t get enough.
Even ChatGPT’s free version lets you generate three images a day — and that’s still not enough for some. Elon Musk’s Grok jumped into the game too. Ghibli style? Check. Van Gogh? Sure. LEGO? You bet. Gummy toy aesthetic? Weirdly, yes. Changing art styles has become our new daily ritual.
But me? I talk to AI all day. I generate images like it’s my job (okay, it is my job). And yet, I didn’t jump on this one.
As I scrolled through image after image of AI-generated magic, I felt something… off. Like, sure, it looks like Ghibli. But does it feel like Ghibli?
AI can mimic Hayao Miyazaki’s composition, color harmony, even brush strokes. But does it understand that late-night rerun of 《Spirited Away》, when you couldn’t sleep because Yubaba was just a little too intense? Does it know why 《Laputa: Castle in the Sky》 made you sob — not because of the visuals, but because it captured the impossible tension between humanity and machines, between hope and destruction?
AI is great at asking, “Want a glow effect? Rule of thirds or diagonal lines?” But it will never ask, “Have you ever lost someone? Do you still love them? When was the last time you cried? Did you regret not saying goodbye? Is there a sentence you’ve never said out loud?”
Because AI has never had a 《Princess Mononoke》 in its heart.
I truly believe, the value of creation isn’t in how close it looks — it’s in how deeply you’ve lived. Real creativity doesn’t come from a mouse click. It comes from the afternoon your heart shattered like glass on tile and no amount of tape could piece it back together.
AI won’t know heartbreak. It won’t cling to old memories. It won’t tear up over a blurry photo. And it certainly won’t get that choking feeling in your helmet as you drive past an old place, suddenly realizing your eyes are flooded with tears.
That’s not an algorithm. That’s a soul-rhythm. Not data — drama.
Someone once asked me, “So you’re anti-AI art, huh?” Absolutely not. I love AI. I just don’t want it to replace my soul — I want it to amplify it.
AI can’t live my life, but it can help make my life visible. It can help turn silent stories into pictures, unspoken emotions into poems. It can turn a lump in the throat into something that glows.
I don’t write for KPI or SEO (though hey, if you’re reading this, thanks for the click). I write because some stories are the fossils of my soul. They’re my proof of living. They’re the nights I typed through tears. The days I couldn’t speak, so I wrote.
People fear AI will replace them. But it can never imitate the moment you stood back up, bloodied but determined. That little glimmer of “I’m still here” — that’s creativity.
AI can copy your style. But it can’t recreate the footprints you left behind. It can generate oil-paint aesthetics and mimic manga techniques. But it can’t capture that scene — you in a crowded night market, clutching a greasy fried chicken, eyes leaking sadness under neon lights.
So don’t fear AI’s progress. Fear forgetting how to feel. Fear not creating anymore.
Because creativity doesn’t come from showing off. It comes from showing up — with your heart wide open.
True creation is what you leave behind when you’ve cried, when you’ve broken — and then, somehow, made something anyway.
▮ Art isn’t about how close it looks — it’s about how deep it hurts.
▮ AI has no soul. But you? You’re made of one.
